Above & Beyond Award, 4/16

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Foundation presents an award within PBSO called the Above & Beyond Award.

The recipient of the Sheriff’s Foundation Above & Beyond Award for April is Deputy Tammy Fox.

Deputy Fox has been a homeless advocate in the Lantana/Lake Worth area for the past 11 years.  She maintains a log book with the names, photos and emergency contacts of the homeless population.  She then works with various agencies and churches to help get people off the streets, or at least make them as comfortable as possible.

As there are often gaps in services, Deputy Fox takes it upon herself to make sure homeless people can make it through another day.  She acts as a liaison between various organizations, ensuring that people get the assistance they need.

In one case she helped a man receive his disability check.  In another case, she arranged for a free apartment for a man who was terminally ill.  And in another case, she stored the ashes of a man’s wife for safe-keeping.

Although many homeless people are distrusting of law enforcement, Deputy Fox has been able to bridge that divide.

Many times Deputy Fox contributes her own personal time and money to the cause, buying blankets, groceries or meals for homeless people.  One year she even prepared a full Thanksgiving dinner and delivered it to a homeless group.

Thanks to Deputy Fox’s proactive approach and selfless actions, hundreds of homeless people in Palm Beach County have received assistance they desperately needed.

Deputy Fox, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond!
