Above & Beyond Award, 8/17
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Foundation presents an award within PBSO called the Above & Beyond Award. The recipient of the Sheriff’s Foundation Above & Beyond Award for August, 2017 is Case Manager Specialist Monica McCoy.
Last year Monica was assigned a Juvenile First Offender case involving a girl who had been caught shoplifting. Monica started providing guidance to the girl and helped her successfully complete the JFO program earlier this year. During this time, the girl stopped hanging around the wrong crowd, and her grades went from D’s and F’s to A’s and B’s.
The girl’s mother was so impressed with her daughter’s turn-around, she asked if Monica could continue working with her. Monica enrolled the girl in the Youth Intervention Program so the girl could continue receiving positive structure.
The girl told Monica her dream was to attend college, something nobody in her family had ever accomplished. Monica continued to provide guidance to the girl and her family, and helped her achieve in school. Monica then helped the girl with the college application and financial aid process.
A couple months ago the young woman received the exciting news that she had been accepted to Palm Beach State College! Monica attended freshman orientation with the young woman, and she started taking classes this month. Monica is now helping her find a job.
The Sheriff’s Foundation was happy to buy the young woman a laptop computer, a printer and other supplies to ease the financial burden.
Thanks to this PBSO employee’s selfless compassion and dedication, a young woman’s life has been completely turned around. Case Manager Specialist Monica McCoy, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond! |
