Above & Beyond Award, 10/16
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Foundation presents an award within PBSO called the Above & Beyond Award. The recipients of the Above & Beyond Award for October are Deputy Shariska Monroy and Deputy Ernest Lowmaster lll.
Last month, Deputy Monroy and Deputy Lowmaster were called to check on a family in Lake Worth. What they found was a family that was constantly on the move because of a lack of resources. Besides the mother and father, there were three children, ages 8, 6 and 1. The family’s current residence had no running water and no furniture. There were a lot of bugs and the children slept in sleeping bags. Food consisted of cereal and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
The mother had a job and the father was actively looking for work. They had applied for aid, but help had not arrived yet. And to add insult to injury, the family was just told to vacate the residence they were living in.
Deputies Monroy and Lowmaster were so moved by the situation, they decided to pay over $400 of their own money to get the family a hotel room so they wouldn’t be living on the street. The deputies also took the time to visit the hotel to make sure the family was okay. The time in the hotel room bridged the gap until Adopt-A-Family could provide support.
Thanks to this selfless act of compassion, a local family was cared for during their time of need. Deputy Monroy and Deputy Lowmaster, the Sheriff’s Foundation thanks you for going Above & Beyond! |
