PBSO Lake Worth Community Policing deputies take kids to LEGOLAND
On 2/7/14, thanks to a grant from the Sheriff’s Foundation, the PBSO Lake Worth Community Policing unit took 17 at-risk kids from South Grade Elementary to LEGOLAND in Winter Haven. Deputy Devin Zuchowski summed it up best: “The students had a blast at LEGOLAND. These kids had never been to a theme park and some may never get the opportunity again. The kids were so appreciative of the trip and they kept telling us ‘thank you’ all day with huge smiles on their faces. I would like to extend a huge thanks to the Sheriff’s Foundation. Without the monetary support from the Foundation, none of this would have been possible. I believe the time we have spent with these kids, since September of 2013 when we started the Erector/Lego project, has made a difference in their lives. These kids now ask us what it takes to be police officers, engineers and mechanics. Before the project, this was not the case. School is tough for these students, and some have low self-esteem and a rough family life. This program was a big success, and again, I want to thank the Foundation for all of its support.” |
